Sparks Travel Softball
2021 TRAVEL TEAM OVERVIEW
The Chatham Sparks program is in its 19th season, and is a great opportunity for girls that love the game of softball and want to develop their skills in a more competitive environment. The philosophy of the program is built around skill development in a competitive environment while making sure the players are enjoying it. Each player will participate in a minimum number of innings during each game. Every player that works hard, shows team spirit, and a positive attitude can count on having a great experience. Spring/Summer Travel teams are formed based on tryouts of players who are registered/play in our Spring Youth League programs, and at a minimum are CURRENTLY in GRADE 3 (exemption to Spring Youth League play rule is age eligible girls in High School).
SUMMER TRAVEL TEAMS
Summer teams at U10, U12, level with rosters at 12-13 players; we plan for two teams at any age group that has enough players and talent (specifically pitching), although this is not guaranteed. The Summer Travel team commitment is from late May through the end of July. Most Sparks Summer teams compete in local area league play, usually consisting of 2 weeknight games with an occasional weekend league game. Teams practice during the week on non-game days – players should expect to play 4-5 days a week between practices and games. This time is needed for the players to develop the skills needed to compete at this higher level. In addition, select summer teams compete in a one or more weekend tournaments during the summer.
TRAVEL TEAM COMMITMENT
Please be advised – a commitment by both the players and parents is needed to the travel program and team regardless of team and age bracket – from U10 to U14. Please consider this commitment before choosing to attend the tryouts. If you are selected for a travel team, it is assumed you have made a full commitment to your travel team for the season.
A player’s age as of December 31st determines the age in which the player is eligible for travel team play the following year. Please use this guideline to determine your child’s travel team classification from U10 to U14.
- U10 – player born on or after January 1, 2013 (must be in at least Grade 3) is ELIGIBLE.
- U12 – player born on or after January 1, 2011 is ELIGIBLE.
- U14 – player born on or after January 1, 2008 is ELIGIBLE.
Any player wishing to “play-up” into a higher age bracket must send a written request to the Chatham Softball Club’s Travel mailbox for consideration and approval prior to tryouts. Please include your player’s name, age/grade, and desired level of play (e.g., U10 request to play-up into U12).
Please direct questions or concerns on the Chatham Sparks Travel Softball Program to the Chatham Softball Club’s Travel mailbox.
NOTE: You must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate to tryouts (a copy to leave with club representative).
