FALL PITCHING CLINICS

Chatham Softball will be sponsoring a four week clinic led by Erica Mehalick, the Head Coach of Drew University Softball Team. The emphasis of the clinics will be on teaching pitching fundamentals.  It is a great way for all softball players to try pitching and learn the basics.  All levels are welcome.  We especially encourage younger players come out as pitching is critical to the health of the program.

For players in 3rd-8th Grade

We will continue to have the winter pitching clinics in January-February as well.

NOTE:  Participants will need a responsible parent/adult to catch for them during the session (must bring your own glove).

Important Information on Youth Concussions

American youths sustain between 1.1 million and 1.9 million sports or recreation related concussions every year, according to a study published in the journal, Pediatrics.  Concussions in the U.S. rose 143% among 10 to 14 year olds and 87% among 15 to 19 year olds from 2007 to 2014.  Sports rank 2nd (behind only motor vehicle crashes) as the leading cause of traumatic brain injury among people aged 15 to 24.

To combat this serious trend, the MEL has added a link to several resources from the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey for parents and coaches of young athletes on its website,https://njmel.org/mel-safety-institute/resource-center/public-safety/sports/ .   We hope you will visit the site, view the information, and share it widely with other parents, coaches, umpires, and youth recreation leaders.
